JAPAN: PLUM BLOSSOMS IN EARLY MARCH.

ImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImage

Plum blossoms that we saw in Kyoto – we were unfortunately too early to see the amazing cherry blossom blooms. Shots taken at Nijō Castle (二条城) and the Kyoto Imperial Palace (京都御所, Kyōto Gosho) gardens. The plum (ume, 梅) is associated with the start of spring as plum blossoms are some of the first blossoms to open during the year. They typically flower in Feburary-March and unlike the cherry blossoms, they have an amazingly sweet and strong smell that fills the air. So lovely.

Spring air –
Woven moon
And plum scent.
                                   – Matsuo Basho
